About Role Based Access Control (RBAC)

Glean offers a robust Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system that allows for the management of user and administrator permissions within the platform. This system ensures that both users and admins have access to the features and data they need while maintaining security and organizational control.

Only users with the Admin or Super Admin roles have control over RBAC within Glean.

Administrator Roles

There are 3 Glean administrator roles, listed below in order of least privilege to most privilege.

  • Setup Admin:
Setup Admins have the ability to configure Single Sign-On, configure integrations between Glean and your various data sources (M365, Google, GitHub, Atlassian, etc.), and can initiate content crawls.
  • Admin:
Admins have full control over Glean Workspace settings, including the ability to manage the roles and permissions of other users, and changing general settings such as the UI theme, company name, and what Glean features are enabled.
  • Super Admin:
The Super Admin role is for members of your security team; providing them with access to security tooling such as Sensitive Content Search and DLP. This role can only be enabled by Glean upon written authorization from your company's CISO or Security Manager due to the sensitive nature of the content it has access to.

User Roles

There is a singular role for general users of the Glean system: Member.

Users with the Member role can have additional Moderator permissions assigned to them by an Admin or Super Admin to allow them to manage content within different features of the Glean platform.

Users with the Member role (with or without Moderator permissions) have no access at all to the Admin UI / Workspace Settings.
