Slackbot

Overview

If your organization uses Slack, you can configure Glean Assistant as a bot within your Slack workspace to automatically answer questions as employees post them.

The answers Glean Assistant provides are only visible to the employee who posted the message, unless shared more broadly by them.

Employees are also able to directly invoke Glean Assistant by tagging @Glean, or by typing /glean followed by their query.

Setup

The Glean Assistant Slackbot must first be enabled before it can be used.

Navigate to Workspace Settings > Setup > Apps > Slack, and click the Gleanbot tab.

Enable the following options:

  • Respond to @Glean in Slack
  • Automatically respond to questions in Slack
  • Search with Gleanbot

Gleanbnot is enabled for every public channel by default. The above options can be customized so that Gleanbot is only enabled within specific channels instead.

Usage

Manual response @Glean

Simply tag @Glean in any channel (or thread) to request a response from Glean Assistant. For example:

What is the latest on Customer X? @Glean

Manual response /glean

Users can explicitly search Glean from within Slack by using the /glean command within Slack. For example:

/glean company all-hands dates

Automatic response

Tip

The Glean Assistant Slackbot will only be invoked if it has reasonable confidence that it can provide an accurate answer.

If Glean Assistant has reasonable confidence that it can answer a query within a user's post, it will automatically invoke itself and privately reply to the user that posted the message.

This user can choose to then either share the result with other users within the thread, or downvote the response if it was not relevant.
